Thomas Chufar, Superintendent of Utilities and Services, has made the announcement that he will retire from the City of North Canton on December 31, 2011.

Three Areas of Concern and their Updates: Zimber Ditch - This is a regional issue with the majority of the Zimber Ditch and the associated drainage area falling outside of the City of North Canton; hence, we are working with the other affected communities. - The County Engineer’s Office has taken the lead in this effort and we have been involved in several discussions. A study is currently being conducted regarding water runoff from the Fairways Golf Course to include a look at the storm sewers in the area. The City has hired a firm that specialized in this type of work.
The City is waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers for their input and advice. The City has also been contacting those entities along the Zimber Ditch in order to set up a multi-jurisdictional task force regarding flooding issues.

The City of North Canton is pleased to announce the promotion of Ptl. Shawn C. Bates to the rank of Sergeant in the North Canton Police Department. Shawn has been with the police department since 1994 when he joined the auxiliary unit. He went full time in 1995. Mayor David Held has announced that Lieutenant Michael J. Wurgler will retire at the end of his shift today after serving over 31 years with the North Canton Police Department.
Wurgler served several months with the Sebring Police Department as a part time officer before being hired as a full time patrol officer with North Canton.
