North Canton Civil Service Commission

The North Canton Civil Service Commission consists of three (3) electors of the municipality appointed by Council to six year terms.

Only full time Police, E.M.S. and Fire Personnel are covered by North Canton civil service provisions.

The Civil Service Commission shall provide by rule for the ascertainment of merit and fitness as the basis for appointment and promotions in the service of the municipality and for appeals from actions of transfer, reduction or removal for personnel classified under civil service. Such rules shall be adopted in the sole discretion of the Civil Service Commission and shall prevail over, override and supersede any and all conflicting or inconsistent general State of Ohio statutes, rules or regulations covering, referring to or in any way or manner addressing civil service requirements.

Electrical Board of Examiners

This North Canton Electrical Board of Examiners has five members appointed by the Mayor for 5-year terms.

The Electrical Board makes up examinations and administers the examinations, usually three times per calendar year.

Planning Commission

This five member North Canton Planning Commission is appointed by the Mayor for five (5) year staggered terms. The Commission reviews and approves commercial building site plans. They review and recommend to City Council actions for proposed zone changes. Subdivisions of land such as plats and lot splits are approved by them.

The Planning Commission meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. if they have an agenda. Deadline for submission of items is the 15th of the preceding month.

The Plumbing Board establish plumbing examinations for journeyman and administers exams, usually three times a year.

North Canton Recreation Board

This North Canton Recreation Board has five members appointed by the Mayor for 5-year staggered terms. Two of the members are either Board of Education members or their designates. The North Canton Recreation Board is an advisory board that recommends and provides guidance to the Administration for equipping, operating, and establishing recreational programs.

The meetings are public and are held the 4th Monday of each month at 4:30 pm in the North Canton Civic Center.

Zoning and Building Standards Board of Appeals

The North Canton Zoning and Building Standards Board of Appeals has five (5) members, appointed by the Mayor for five (5) year staggered terms. The Board hears appeals from property owners aggrieved by decisions rendered by City building and zoning officials, and may grant variances from zoning regulations.

The North Canton Zoning Board meetings are public and generally held at 6:00 P.M. on the 4th Tuesday of each month in City Council Chambers.
